The Nov. 18 editorial in support of welcoming Syrian refugees stated, “There is no question that those immigrants must be conclusively vetted ... .” Therein lies the problem.

According to the FBI, CIA, Department of Homeland Security and other leading national security experts, contrary to what the president has said, there is currently no sufficient means test available to properly vet these immigrants.

These are very unusual and perilous times for our nation’s security. Until a program can be found and utilized successfully to fully vet these refugees, we should be very cautious with permitting them into Oregon or any other state.

Russia and France have more stringent mechanisms in place to screen immigrants and look what has happened to them in the past few weeks. It would be foolish of us in America to not expect similar outcomes with the current inefficient systems we have in place.
