Invitation to Participate in a Tele-Town Hall on July 28, 2014 at 6:00 PM PDT

Alert date:
July 25, 2014
Alert body:
Representative Kurt Schrader will hold a “tele-town hall” on July 28 at 6 pm. This is an opportunity to tell him how important it is to stop the current surge of illegal immigration at the southern border. Pres. Obama is not enforcing immigration law; on the contrary he is accommodating the illegal alien surge, claiming most are unaccompanied children, and spending large sums of public funds to care for the illegal entrants. This is outrageous, especially at a time when so many citizens are in need of jobs and living wages.

Tell Rep. Schrader that Border Patrol statistics found buried on a government website confirm that most of the Central American illegal aliens apprehended in the recent surge are not unaccompanied children, but are family units. Less than one-fourth (22 percent) of all those apprehended are unaccompanied alien children (UACs) from Central America.

These “children” are not being trafficked; they are being smuggled. Claiming that the anti-trafficking law necessitates our treating them differently is wrong.

Our country desperately needs true immigration law enforcement. Otherwise, we will be overwhelmed by illegal immigrants from all over the world. We are in danger of losing our sovereignty and our nation.

PODL endorser Michael Cutler on Immigration "Reform": Engineered Destruction of the Middle Class

Periodically so-called “buzz words” and “buzz phrases” become fashionable. Of late, the concept of “wage equality” has been bandied about by members of the administration, politicians and some media personalities...

Before we consider the words many politicians use, we would be wise to consider two important quotes from George Orwell, the author of “1984” and other significant literary works.

“Political language – and with variations this is true of all political parties from Conservatives to Anarchists – is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.”

“In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”

Having been forewarned let us now consider the definition of “equality.”...

In short, equality has taken on the cloak of being, as the saying goes, “As American as apple pie.” Simply uttering the word “equality” evokes the emotional image of an American flag billowing in a gentle breeze with a clear blue sky serving as a backdrop.

Obviously if “equality” is good, “inequality” is bad. In most situations this is certainly true.

...when Obama and other politicians, as well as talk show hosts, bring up wage inequality, they don’t ever discuss whose salaries will be used as the baseline against which paychecks should be compared as efforts are made to eliminate or reduce wage inequality...

... the true goal of reducing wage inequality, the engineered destruction of America’s middle class.

The American Dream is inextricably linked to a vibrant and upwardly mobile middle class. The incentives for the creation of the middle class are created by an element of wage inequality. If this is confusing, consider that it is expected that generally, more highly skilled or educated workers should expect to earn more money than their lesser educated or skilled counterparts in the workforce.

This makes perfect sense and has, for generations, provided a strong incentive for American students, spurring them on to remain in school to obtain college degrees and even graduate degrees. This is why most people think of the money, time and effort expended in pursuit of advanced degrees or enhanced skills as an important investment in their futures. You could say that this is a case of “learn more to earn more.”...

On May 15, 2007 a four-minute infuriating video was aired on “Lou Dobbs Tonight” on CNN. It features an immigration lawyer’s conference in which lawyers were being coached to not find qualified U.S. workers!” The lecturer is identified in the video as being Lawrence M. Lebowitz, the Vice President of Marketing for the firm of Cohen & Grigsby.

The Winter 2014 edition of the quarterly journal, “The Social Contract” published my extensive article on the devastating impact that Comprehensive Immigration Reform would have on the middle class and on the economy of the United States. My article was entitled: “American Dream Being Sold at Auction – America’s Middle Class to Be Put on Endangered Species List”

...While it is obvious that employers who hire illegal aliens or who game the system to bring in foreign workers with visas that enable them to work in the United States for wages that are far lower than those Americans would be paid, there are others whose ability to profit financially and/or acquire political power might not be so readily apparent.

The list of these profiteers includes banks and money remitters who become the silent partner of every person who moves money from the United States to foreign countries. It includes immigration attorneys who not only represent aliens but employers who seek to hire foreign workers. Labor unions looking for more members, which translates into more union dues and more political leverage, are certainly on board with this concept, as are the National Chamber of Commerce and many but not all local Chambers of Commerce. Schools are eager to bring in foreign students and at present the GAO estimates that there are some 10,000 schools that are authorized to file the appropriate applications to enable foreign students to come to the United States.

The list goes on — but I think you get the point.

Facilitating the entry of still more foreign workers and more foreign students would create still more devastation for American workers and their families but would greatly increase the wealth of the super wealthy who are at the absolute top of the economic food chain in America...

The infamous bank robber, Willie Sutton, when asked why he robbed banks said simply, “That’s where the money is!” Today CEO’s seek to find employees oversees in Third World countries because that where the cheap labor is...

Most people equate Comprehensive Immigration Reform with a massive amnesty for unknown millions of illegal aliens who have violated America’s borders and immigration laws that are supposed to protect American lives and the jobs of American workers, thereby creating a national security nightmare.

What is generally not known is that among the provisions of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, the legislative betrayal of American citizens, is that it would provide for a huge increase in the number of H-1B visas for high tech workers and a provision that would, for the very first time, permit the spouses and adult children of H-1B visa holders to be granted Employment Authorization Documents (EAD’s) that would give these nonimmigrant family members as much right to any job as an American worker.

Greenspan said that American workers should no longer be shielded from foreign competition. This is a key area of “reform” that this legislation would deliver. Under the current immigration laws, Title 8 U.S. Code § 1182: (Inadmissible Aliens) enumerates various categories of aliens who are to be prevented from entering the U.S. The list of excludible classes of aliens includes aliens who suffer dangerous communicable diseases, severe mental illness, fugitives from justice, aliens who are convicted felons, spies, terrorists, war criminals, human rights violators, and others whose presence would undermine national security and/or public safety...

The Daily Caller’s article, “Zuckerberg’s lobby group announces hackathon with illegal immigrants,” focused on a unique program created by Zuckerberg and his Silicon Valley cohorts to provide opportunities expressly for illegal aliens....

Why could not this incredible opportunity have been provided to American children — perhaps especially those living in poverty? It is reported that some 25% of all American children now live below the poverty line. Many of these children are members of America’s minority communities.

Why not provide such opportunities to returning battle-weary and/or wounded members of the U.S. military?...

With all of the frustration so many Americans now justifiably feel about their representation (or lack thereof) by the administration and by Congress, it is essential to note that one of the implacable stalwart champions and defenders of American workers and their families is Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama...

I would argue that all of America’s national debt could be eliminated by effective immigration law enforcement coupled with “going back to the future” by making certain that American Citizens be provided with a world class education and preference in the workforce. This is how the “Greatest Generation” built America’s Middle Class and with it, the American Dream.

National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers - Press Release

PRESS RELEASE:

America is undergoing the most intensive campaign of Political Deception ever launched against Americans by her political leaders.

The Administration, the members of the U.S. Senate that voted for S-744, and every other member of Congress that supports a path to

citizenship, regularization or any other form of amnesty for illegal aliens before providing for full protections for National Security (jobs & economy) and Public Safety (the right of the people to be secure in their property and person) are fully responsible for the wave of illegal aliens flooding into the United States today.

There is a solution to this and it requires defining the root source of the problem.

Any elected member of the Executive or Legislative Branch of the U.S. Government that has not stood up and demanded that current Immigration Law be enforced vigorously since 1986 is fully and exclusively responsible for this latest invasion. This is not a

humanitarian crisis. It is a predictable, orchestrated and contrived assault on the compassionate side of Americans by her political leaders that knowingly puts minor Illegal Alien children at risk for purely political purposes. Certainly, we are not gullible enough to believe that thousands of unaccompanied minor Central American children came to America without the encouragement, aid and assistance of the United States Government. Anyone that has taken two six to seven year old children to an amusement park can only imagine the problems associated with bringing thousands of unaccompanied children that age up through Mexico and into the United States. I doubt even the Cartels would undertake that chore at any price. No, it has to be heartless corrupt politicians and their minions lusting for more money and power.

The non enforcement of America's Immigration Laws has lead America to the next step in becoming a failed state in that we are arguably a lawless nation by not enforcing the Immigration Laws or upholding the Constitution. Yes, our leaders are guilty. However, we are responsible because it is the American voter that has placed untrustworthy people in positions of power and kept them there when they have clearly demonstrated that they have violated that public trust. These successful con artists are well dressed, attractive and charming. Putting untrustworthy officials in charge of America is how Americans are robbed in the 21st century, with the aid of the IRS, DOJ, BLM, DHS, EPA, HHS, etc., of their money and their God given rights.

Will this heartless criminal exploitation of Central American infants and children finally awaken Americans to the ruse being foisted upon them by their government, the media and other interested parties, or has America lost her ability to stand up against the tyrants and do what is right rather than what is easy? Obviously, this administration thinks you are as corrupt as they are and will vote them back into office or these young children would not be streaming into America to tug at your hearts and empty your heads of reason.

We at NAFBPO are mightily encouraged to see that Texas has once again stood up against tyranny and shone the brilliant light of freedom across the land by setting an example for freedom loving Americans to follow:

http://bigjollypolitics.com/2014/06/09/compromising-positions-texas-gop-...

We further believe that the only way to overcome the criminal element leading this nation today is for the people to rise up and report in mass to the ballot box with fire in their hearts for the rule of law, our Constitution and the voice of freedom on their lips and remove these criminals and replace them with true patriots who will protect America first.

Sincerely,

Zack Taylor - Chairman

Obama Responds To Border Crisis by Ordering Even More Incentives for Illegal Entry

Washington, D.C. - June 6, 2014) While an unprecedented number of illegal alien minors surge across the border – incentivized by lax enforcement and promises of amnesty – the Obama administration has just announced it is expanding a program that defers the deportation of illegal aliens. In June of 2012, the Obama administration bypassed Congress with an executive action that put into place Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The program, otherwise known as the DREAM Act, grants a reprieve from deportation and work authorization to broad categories of “young” illegal aliens. Yesterday, the Department of Homeland Security announced that a two-year renewal process has begun and encourages those not already enrolled to do so.

Dan Stein, president of the Federation for America Immigration Reform (FAIR) called yesterday’s action “reckless and irresponsible.” Stein observed that, “even while we’re watching the chaotic result of this administration’s non-enforcement policies at the border, the president is implementing even more incentives guaranteed to create more chaos.”

According to White House sources, the number of unaccompanied illegal alien minors entering the United States could be more than 60,000 this year, a 90 percent increase over 2013 and up to 130,000 by 2015. A recent memo from the Border Patrol estimates the numbers could be even higher. The surge is overwhelming local border officials and forcing them to transport the aliens further north for processing and release.

Since its implementation in 2012, more than 560,000 illegal aliens have applied for relief from deportation under the DACA program. While the program limits eligibility to those who have resided in the United States since June 2007, the message being sent to Mexico and throughout Central America is that illegal entry is rewarded, further amnesty legislation is pending and in its absence, the president will enact it by executive action.

“President Obama has responded to the border crisis by issuing a memorandum ordering a ‘unified and coordinated federal’ response," Stein continued. “It’s laughable because the problem has been created by Obama’s six-year ‘unified and coordinated federal’ campaign to dismantle enforcement. Now he’s pretending to repair the very thing he deliberately broke by expanding benefits.”

“If President Obama believes the flood of illegal alien minors at the border is a humanitarian crisis then he needs to send a strong message throughout Mexico and Central America that the United States will enforce its laws and he needs to discourage parents from sending their children on a dangerous journey north,” Stein said. Renewing a program (DACA) that indefinitely delays enforcement of our immigration laws just perpetuates the problem.”

About FAIR

Founded in 1979, FAIR is the country’s largest immigration reform group. With over 250,000 members nationwide, FAIR fights for immigration policies that serve national interests, not special interests. FAIR believes that immigration reform must enhance national security, improve the economy, protect jobs, preserve our environment, and establish a rule of law that is recognized and enforced.

Eric Cantor to surrender House GOP leadership post in July

WASHINGTON — Repudiated at the polls, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor intends to resign his leadership post at the end of next month...

Lawmakers in both parties said the majority leader’s defeat and the prospect of a change within the Republican high command probably signal the demise of immigration legislation along the lines President Barack Obama is seeking....

One Republican said he feared the effects of Cantor’s defeat could be debilitating for the party and the government.

Interviewed on MSNBC, Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., said he was worried that Cantor’s stunning loss may lead to even more congressional gridlock. Asked if he thought immigration legislation was dead, he replied, “I’m concerned that Ted Cruz supporters, Rand Paul supporters, are going to use this as an excuse” to shut down the government...

Brat campaigned as a foe of immigration legislation, and said Cantor was likely to help immigrants living in the United States illegally gain amnesty if given a new term in the House...

The impact of Cantor’s surprise loss on the fate of immigration legislation in the current Congress seemed clear. Conservatives will now be emboldened in their opposition to legislation to create a path to citizenship for immigrants living in the country illegally, and party leaders who are sympathetic to such legislation will likely be less willing to try....

“The Republican Party has been completely swallowed by the tea party. I mean, any debate over whether the tea party controls the Republican Party has ended,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the Democratic national chair, said on MSNBC.

Sit-in protesters arrested at Walden's Bend office

BEND, Ore. - As about a dozen supporters rallied outside, a man and woman protesting Republicans' inaction on immigration reform staged a sit-in at Rep. Greg Walden's Bend office Wednesday, saying they won't leave until they are arrested -- and they were.

After police were called to the Bond Street office of the congressman, Greg Delgado and Ann Havill still refused to leave, were cited for criminal trespass and released, said Officer Rob Emerson.

Here's the news release issued earlier by Causa, a statewide Latino immigrant rights organization:

It’s been nearly a year since the U.S. Senate passed the bipartisan immigration bill, and during that time, House Republicans have used nearly every excuse in the book as to why they can’t finish the job and pass comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship.

Today, in solidarity with actions happening around the nation, members of the Central Oregon community are holding a sit-in and rally at Congressman Greg Walden's District office in Bend. They are demanding that Congressman Walden take action immediately on reforming our nation's broken immigration system.

“He has admitted that the system is broken, but he has yet to do anything”, said Greg Delgado, Causa's Central Oregon Organizer. “ We urge him to sign the discharge petition, take action on the Immigration Reform Bill already passed by the U.S. Senate or have the U.S. House create a bill.”

Delgado added, “It’s now or never for the GOP. We’re here today to remind Congressman Walden and Republicans: your time is nearly up. They either heed the calls of their constituents and call Speaker Boehner to demand he schedule a vote by June 28th, or sit idly as their party kisses the White House—and eventually Congress—goodbye for decades to come.”

“The future of the Republican Party is on the line," he added." "Doing nothing will sever their ties with Latino, Asian, and immigrant voters for decades. Unless they come out publicly against the Republican obstruction, every House Republican is responsible for blocking immigration reform, and they will be blamed for tearing apart our families and communities.”

STOP SEPARATING FAMILIES: We are calling on Congressman Greg Walden and Republicans to show moral courage and leadership by calling for a vote in the House on Comprehensive Immigration Reform with a path to citizenship.

Who: Human rights advocates, farmworkers, students, faith leaders, labor community and Central Oregon residents committed to passing immigration reform that respects the dignity and the rights of all immigrants and includes a path to citizenship.

92% of Top Tech Companies Created in the U.S. Were Founded by Native-Born Americans

But didn't the press report that 36 percent of the top technology companies were founded by immigrants?

Yes it did. The figures came from a presentation by Mary Meeker. That presentation includes this slide making that very claim. Naturally, Ms. Meeker followed that slide with the obligatory call for more cheap foreign workers on H-1B visas.

Like Ms. Meeker I, too, have read How to Lie With Statistics. You are supposed to see her figures showing 36 percent of companies are founded by immigrants and think that means only 64 percent are founded by natives — a huge disparity given the number of immigrants. However, Ms. Meekers has used a trick with numbers; she counts as "founded by immigrants" any company that has at least one of its often multiple founders who was born abroad or who had at least one parent born abroad.

But that trick works both ways. All you have to do is flip her numbers around; instead of ignoring the native-born Americans, ignore the immigrants.

For example, Texas Instruments had four founders: John Erik Jonsson (born Brooklyn, N.Y.), Eugene McDermott (born Brooklyn, N.Y.), Patrick Haggarty (born Harvey, N.D.), Cecil Green (born U.K.). Ms. Meeker ignored Jonsson, McDermott, and Haggarty in favor of Green and called Texas Instruments a company founded by immigrants. Do the opposite and ignore Green. Then Texas Instruments becomes a company founded by native-born Americans.

Doing the same reversal for the rest of the companies produces this result (bolded companies native-founded).

  • Apple
  • Google
  • Microsoft
  • IBM
  • Oracle
  • Facebook
  • Amazon.com
  • Qualcomm
  • Intel
  • Cisco
  • Ebay
  • HP
  • Priceline
  • EMC
  • Texas Instruments
  • VMWare
  • ADP
  • Yahoo
  • Salesforce.com
  • Adobe
  • Micron
  • Netflix
  • Intuit
  • Sandisk

Twenty-two out of the top 24 (92 percent) of top technology companies started in the United States were founded by natives.

This list has one fewer entry than Ms. Meeker's. I dropped Cognizant because Cognizant was not founded in the United States. It was started in India by Dun & Bradstreet as a means to offshore American jobs. Four years later, in 1994, the headquarters was moved to New Jersey. Cognizant remains a leader in America job destruction. In other words, Cognizant represents precisely the type of entity that America should keep out of the country. In any event, calling Cognizant an immigrant-founded company is a stretch.

The statistical lie is only the first misstep in the argument. Next comes the non sequitur. The fact that Sergey Brin came to the United States as a child and years later became a cofounder of Google does not support the argument that American needs more H-1B guest workers.

Outsiders who recognize this statistical lie in a study frequently ask me to do one from the opposite side. But I just cannot bring myself to assisting in lowering the debate this way. While the cheap labor lobby sees the need to denigrate native-born Americans, I see no need to diminish the contributions of immigrants. I just show, as here, why this kind of analysis is nonsense.

Along with regression analysis without causation and correlation, this form of statistical lie is one of the most common tricks used to support more cheap, foreign labor. My colleague David North has written about this previously (see here and here). The inflation trick used here for founding companies also works for patent production. Also notice the broader you define a founder, the greater the distortion this trick creates. Some studies using this trick have used "key contributor" to define a founder, so that early employees get included.

The cheap labor lobby will continue to use this technique as long as they can get the complacent American media to print their bogus numbers.

Sharp Increase in Illegal Immigrant Children at Border Causes Crisis

An overwhelming number of children are being apprehended while attempting to illegally cross the the U.S.-Mexico border during recent months. The crisis, which has strained federal resources, has prompted lawmakers from around the U.S. to demand more funding to "accommodate" the children crossers. Opponents, however, claim that increased funding will not fix the real problem--they believe that the Obama Administration's failure to secure the border is ultimately what caused the spike in child victimization.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, more than 60,000 unaccompanied children are expected to illegally cross into the United States this year--that figure is substantially up from 2011, when only about 6,500 minors crossed. The Rio Grande Valley (RVG) Border Patrol Sector alone now apprehends about 1,000 illegal aliens per day, many of whom are children without parents.

The sharp influx of youth traveling into the U.S. has strained federal resources and left authorities without a plan-of-action moving forward.

Roll Call reported that this "phenomenon" has turned "Border Patrol offices into day cares and military barracks into youth dormitories. The Health and Human Services Department struggles to keep up with the demands for its foster care, often leaving the kids stuck in detention facilities designed for adults."

U.S. facilities have become so overcrowded that 1,000 illegal immigrant children were recently sent to San Antonio's Lackland Air Force Base where they were provided with clothing, food, education, foster care programs, and "behavioral treatment centers." The cost of the provided benefits and housing has not been disclosed to U.S. taxpayers.

Academics and government officials claim to be "stumped" as to why there has been such a steep incline of children illegal crossers along the border.

Some cite safety concerns and the pressure to join cartels.

Breitbart Texas’ contributing editor and border expert, Sylvia Longmire said, "It’s so difficult for many Americans to really comprehend the horrible situation these families and children find themselves in every single day, because we don’t have to worry about our own children being forcibly recruited into these lethal gangs."

Not everyone, however, agrees that safety is the real cause of the increase of child crossers.

Zack Taylor, Chairman of the National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers, told Breitbart Texas that the Obama Administration's rhetoric has "encouraged" illegal immigrants to cross the border.

"Being an illegal alien is not a right to citizenship," Taylor said. "When Vice President Biden says these kinds of things, that is just an invitation for foreign nationals to come up here. It's time for the U.S to get serious about immigration. We can start by taking away their incentives to be here. All benefits: medical, food stamps, public housing, education, everything."

Rather than focus on the root of the problem, which in Taylor's view is border security, Washington would rather throw money at the problem.

"Senate appropriators have said there is an obvious need for more money to help DHS intercept and humanely detain the unaccompanied minors, to aid HHS in housing and caring for the children and to facilitate trials to determine whether the children will be deported," Roll Call reported.

Senate Appropriations Chairwoman Barbara A. Mikulski told a panel, "This is a humanitarian crisis, and we have to go to the edge of our chairs to at least get the estimate for fiscal ’15...our failure to appropriate could exacerbate the humanitarian crisis."

New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen reportedly added, "Rather than worrying about the silos where the money comes from, we need to think about what we can do that’s right for the kids."

It is easy to surmise that Mikulski, Shaheen, and their colleagues are using emotional appeals to divert attention away from the need to secure the U.S.-Mexico border.

One could additionally surmise that the "humanitarian crisis" was brought about by the Obama Administration's narrative that has seemingly sought to victimize immigrants while demonizing Border Patrol agents.

"The U.S. is partly responsible for foreign nationals taking extreme measures that risk the lives of their children," Taylor concluded. "Our government is encouraging foreign nationals to come into our country illegally and stay."

Rep. Bonamici to hold Town Halls, June 3-14

Alert date:
June 1, 2014
Alert body:

Rep. Bonamici will be holding several Town Halls in June, from June 3-14.

The news release announcing the town halls quotes her: “These town halls are an excellent opportunity to hear directly from my constituents about the issues that they value most. I encourage all my constituents to attend and participate.”

So let’s ask her why she supports “comprehensive immigration reform,” meaning amnesty for illegal aliens. She recently voted for H.R. 15, a House version of the notorious Senate-passed S.744, granting sweeping amnesties to illegal aliens and greatly increasing levels of legal immigration.

Immigration May Come Back With a Vengeance in 2015

Republicans are already in the beginning stages of planning their legislative agenda if they take control of the Senate in November, and many say immigration reform would be a top priority, even while President Obama's trustworthiness as a legislative partner remains in doubt.

“I don’t know anyone who thinks the immigration system is working the way it should, so we’re gonna have some ideas and we’re going to move them across the floor in smaller consensus — on a consensus basis. And not the sort of divisive, all-or-nothing, pig-in-the-python sort of method,” Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn told Breitbart News last week when asked about the prospect of a GOP-controlled Senate pushing its own immigration reform agenda.

Days earlier, Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio said Republicans would “absolutely” try to pass better immigration reform legislation if the GOP wins the Senate in November.

Even some noted anti-amnesty hawks sounded relatively optimistic.

“I think there is a better prospect that we would go forward with some immigration initiative if the Republicans control the Senate, but we still have the problem of trusting the president. But I think we’d be in a better position to try and enforce the law if we have both the House and the Senate,” Texas Republican Lamar Smith told Breitbart Tuesday.

House Republicans are quick to point out the lack of confidence many have in the Obama administration’s willingness to fully implement what Congress passes.

South Carolina Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy noted that the GOP has controlled the Senate before without passing immigration reform and alluded to concerns about Obama’s lack of enforcement of immigration law.

“That is a very legitimate concern,” Gowdy said of Obama’s enforcement of the law, “and releasing detainees, some of whom have criminal records, really undercuts the authenticity of the president’s argument that he wants to do something.” Gowdy added, “That is impossible to explain.”

A recent report revealed that last year the Obama administration released more than 36,000 criminal immigrants, convicted of nearly 88,000 crimes and awaiting the outcome of deportation proceedings.

The Obama factor is not lost on one of the most vocal Republican backers of immigration reform, but for another reason.

“No matter who pushes immigration, here is your dilemma: We’re not going to get the visas we want, or the border security we want, and the employer verification we want without dealing with the 11 million,” said South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham, who helped pass an immigration reform bill in the Senate last year.

“President Obama is still going to be president, there is no way he is going to sign a bill into law that doesn’t have some kind of firm, fair treatment of the 11 million, so that’s reality. We may have the House and the Senate but we don’t have the White House,” he added.

While many Republicans say they are for immigration reform, Alabama Republican Rep. Mo Brooks said it is all in the definitions.

“I would say that over 90 percent of congressmen and senators are for immigration reform,” Brooks said Monday, adding that he is for immigration reform himself. “The problem is we have wildly different meanings when we use the phrase immigration reform. To me, for example, getting someone in the White House who enforces our laws and deports illegal aliens, that’s immigration reform. But that is not what Chuck Schumer, or Harry Reid, or Barack Obama mean.”

According to Brooks, Schumer, Reid, and Obama are looking at the current illegal immigrant population as future voters who will influence elections for the Democratic party.

Florida Republican Rep. Mario Diaz Balart (R-FL), on the other hand, has previously warned that Obama may unilaterally enact amnesty, blowing up the chances of a legislative deal. Asked about 2015, he was circumspect.

“I don’t want to talk about hypotheticals, but just a mathematical reality is that we need to do something based on Republican, conservative principles; but we’re going to have to get a few Democrats, obviously, otherwise we’re not going to be able to pass it,” he said.

Schumer told The Hill last week that Democrats likely would not be on board with the idea of immigration reform through separate bills and argued that, if the House did not pass immigration reform before August, it will not happen until 2017 or later.

Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King said he would need to see the details of any proposal and expressed optimism that, should the GOP take the Senate, Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley would likely be the next chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. King said if that were the case, he “would get more sleep at night” and that he believed such an effort “would look dramatically different than the one that came out of the Senate.”

King argued, however, that while lawmakers should have the debate, any new immigration legislation should be saved for another president’s desk.

“My counsel would be let’s have the debate, let's set the groundwork, let’s get to an American consensus, let’s put it on the desk of the next president, because this one has decried his own oath of office,” King said.

“This president will not enforce any law he does not like,” he added. “Plus, you put it on his desk, he’ll veto it, so why make a deal with him? If you make a deal with him you get a bill on his desk that he will sign, he will enforce the parts of the bill he likes; he’ll not enforce the parts he doesn’t like. That’s what he’s doing now.”

Indeed, Tuesday House Speaker Boehner, who has reportedly said he is “hell-bent” on passing immigration reform this year, did not point to the Democratically controlled Senate as the reason the House has not moved forward with immigration reform to date. He pointed to President Obama.

“We’ve talked about this literally every week for the last 18 months, and I think it's clear over the last several months that until the president gives us some reason, some confidence that we can trust him to implement an immigration reform bill, we’re really not going to have much to talk about,” Boehner said. "The ball is in the president’s court.”
