In less than 2 weeks, ballots will be arriving in the mail for the Special Election for Representative, First Oregon Congressional District. This is a very important position as Congress is the branch of the Federal Government that makes immigration laws. The former Representative, David Wu, served for over 10 years almost always voting for benefits to illegal aliens and higher immigration levels. We need a Representative who understands the urgency of stopping illegal immigration and reducing the numbers legally admitted.

A Salem police officer stopped a moving vehicle from crashing into Market Street traffic Monday evening, jumping into the rolling minivan after it had been abandoned by a fleeing suspect.

Officer Erik Hernandez stopped the 1995 Ford Windstar van just before it entered traffic at the intersection of Market and 32nd Place NE, while two other officers caught suspect Efren Avalos-Villa in a nearby parking lot, Salem police Lt. Jim Aguilar said.

A Salem-area man convicted of repeatedly raping two underage girls has been sentenced to more than 170 years in prison — the longest sentence for a sex-crime conviction in Marion County in at least 10 years.

TEMPE - Arizona authorities have arrested some 200 people, and seized $7.8 million in cash and more than 1,200 pounds of drugs following an investigation they say has dismantled an "extensive" drug trafficking cell tied to the powerful Sinaloa cartel, federal and state authorities announced Tuesday.

Three weeks ago Dannica Dillenbeck had never heard of Mission, Texas. Now, it’s likely she’ll never forget it.

The city of 77,000 near the Mexican border became all too familiar to Dillenbeck when she tried to fill out a job application for the new Walmart store in Albany.

Linn County does a background check on all job applicants through the Social Security Administration database, but has not used the Department of Homeland Security’s E-Verify database, according to county administrator Ralph Wyatt.

The Supreme Court, dealing a setback to the Obama administration, said Monday it will consider reviving Arizona’s law that targets illegal immigrants and gives more enforcement power to local police.
