Is support for an illegal-alien amnesty the key to GOP salvation?

OFIR Vice President Rick LaMountain explains the folly of the GOP chasing the Hispanic vote by way of an amnesty.  Read Rick's article in Wednesday's Investor's Business Daily.

Oh, and there's that, too...

The elephant in the room is eating away at our budget.  Why is it the only discussion our Governor has about the state budget revolves around cutting benefits to PERS employees (who earned them) and letting dangerous criminals out of jail to prey on Oregon citizens.

Worse yet, his plans often include ideas about what our state can do for those who are in our country illegally...how can we make their life better, easier and more convenient for them.

As a lifelong Oregonian I would like to hear some ideas about how our governor intends to make life better (and safer) for the citizens and legal residents of Oregon.  What is most often left out of budget discussions, is the honest conversation about the real cost of illegal aliens in our state.  With over 8% unemployment in Oregon, there is never a discussion about the estimated 100,000 working illegal aliens and 200,000 unemployed citizens.  The Oregon Legislature won't even hear any bills requiring employers to use free and easy to use employment verification called E-Verify.

Our elected officials owe us that courtesy because reports show that families illegally in our state cost the tax-payers over $700 million just in services every year.

Do you ever see that kind of information printed in budget reports, newspapers or do you ever hear it on the news?  Not likely.

The Governor's next move is to cut services to citizens to offset the cost of spending our tax dollars on sending illegal alien students to state universities and only charging them in-state tuition rates, instead of out of state tuition....which, by the way, legal citizens have to pay if they want to attend an Oregon school.

Read this article about how the governor justifies cutting programs to citizens, but just "slips in" the reason why.

Dropping out is not an alternative

Dropping out is an appealing escape route, and many good men and women have already taken that path. But true patriots will resist and overcome that temptation.

I'm certain you have all noticed how the media handles the stories of the day.  But it's our job to point out to them that we see it and don't like it.  We must insist on honest, fair and complete reporting without the media bias we have become so accustomed to.  It's shameful!

Read Tom Tancredo's excellent article and you decide if it's time to speak up.

Not this again...

One only needs to look at history to see the road that the GOP is heading down will lead us right back to where we are now.

Rewarding illegal behavior in any way is always wrong.  Because the government has been so weak on enforcement of our immigration laws, we have a looming problem.  The government doesn't want to take responsibility for the mess they have created, they want to hand out green cards instead and pretend that will solve the problem.  It will not solve the problem, it will once again, make it worse.

If the government is unable now, to handle who is coming here, where they are working and what they are doing, how on earth can we even imagine how they would manage such a complex and cumbersome plan as the one described in this article and at what cost?

This is a mess no one wants to clean up for fear of angering the potential Hispanic voter.  That's just dumb.  Do the right thing first and everything else will fall into place.  Enforce our existing immigration laws.

It's time to get control of the problem and stop pussy footing around about it.  Amnesty is not the solution.

Connecting the dots...

Connecting the dots between high unemployment, increased crime, exploding entitlement programs, over-crowded school and a deteriorating environment and how they are related to un-checked illegal immigration and excessive legal immigration is a big job, but one we all must continue to pursue.

While Americans re-elected President Obama based on their apparent preference for his economic policies, they do not embrace his plans for amnesty. Furthermore, Americans want to see laws enforced at the workplace through mandatory use of the free, accurate and easy to use E-verify program.

Neither the candidates nor the media drew attention to the deleterious impact that high immigration levels have on American workers," said Marilyn DeYoung, Chairman of the Board of CAPS. "There is no difference between outsourcing, sending American jobs overseas, and insourcing, bringing in foreign workers to take American jobs."

While jobs, jobs and jobs dominated races here in Oregon and across the nation, no one had enough confidence to point out that, here in Oregon about 100,000 illegal aliens are working and 200,000 Oregonians are unemployed.

We need to do a better job of connecting the dots.

Administration’s focus is on what the president can do for illegal aliens, not on securing the border

During the Obama administration, outside of pursuing a direct amnesty policy, ancillary policies have purposefully weakened enforcement mechanisms throughout the entire immigration system.  In a letter to The Washington Times, Janice Kephart, director of national security policy at the Center for Immigration Studies explains what has happened over the past four years and what will happen if Obama is re-elected.

Montana has the right idea

If the citizens of Montana pass LR-121, it will prevent illegal aliens from getting jobs with state agencies, receiving state-issued professional and trade licenses, collecting unemployment benefits, and more.  What a great idea!  In 2013, the Oregon Legislature will be looking at similar bills OFIR is working on and will need your encouragement to pass those bills.  Keep in touch with your Legislators and make certain they are representing the best interests of Oregonians.             Read the LTE in the The Missoulian find out what they are doing in Montana.

Vote today!

Vote for Bruce Starr for Labor Commissioner.  If your ballot is still kicking around the house, it's not too late to vote, but it might be too late to mail your ballot.

Simply locate a drop site and deliver your ballot before November 6 at 8:00pm.

This election will be a turning point.  Many elected officials fail to respect and uphold the laws of our state.  The result is that those in our country illegally are becoming emboldened ….demanding drivers licenses, Oregon jobs, instate tuition benefits and more all while costing taxpayers over $700 million dollars in services every year.

We need strong leadership...

Vote Bruce Starr for Labor Commissioner.

Send your ballot in today and be certain to sign the outside envelope, as well!

Or, put another way...

In this article Peter Wong reports about a small group of illegal aliens walking from Portland to the State Capitol in Salem to call attention to the fact that they, as illegal aliens, can't get an Oregon driver license.

Better put:

Foreign Nationals living and working illegally in our state are unhappy that they are unable to acquire driver licenses. End of story!

The bigger, yet untold story, is why lawmakers would be working behind closed doors to bend our strong 2008 Oregon Driver License law to make life easier for illegal aliens?

Pull up the welcome mat and send a strong message...you are not welcome in Oregon.

What about the National Security risk just across our border?

While President Obama and Governor Mitt Romney were exchanging verbal blows about the biggest threats to our National security and who would do the best job protecting the American people, I was disappointed that neither one of them acknowledged the risk on our own border.  Having traveled, toured and learned from specialists all along Arizona border and parts of the Texas border, I believe one of our greatest threats is the sieve that is our southern border. Those that want to hurt us the most are coming across with little or no detection.  Law enforcement all along the border told us repeatedly they are desperately concerned about who and what is getting over the border.  The fact that the issue was never even addressed in any of the debates is troubling.  Read more here.

Your tax dollars at work

Oregon is home to a thriving nursery industry.  However, many of these businesses take advantage of Brad Avakian (Bureau of Labor and Industries Commissioner) and Oregon's lax enforcement of labor laws.  They often rely on workers that are in the U.S illegally.  Now, to add insult to injury, your tax dollars are being used to educate nursery workers, so they will be better educated for their employers. Read more here.

Wouldn't Oregon's tax dollars be better spent to educate Oregon's unemployed youth, our returning veterans or our low skill workers that want to work, but either don't have specialized skills or simply can't find a job?

Oregon needs a strong Bureau of Labor and Industries Commissioner.  Vote for Bruce Starr for BOLI Commissioner.

Driver licenses for illegal aliens create bigger problems

Governor Kitzhaber has stated, in no uncertain terms, that he wants to restore driving privileges to illegal aliens living and working in our state.  Perhaps he should take look at what Washington State is dealing with due to their "welcome mat" approach to illegal aliens.  Read more here.
