Welcome to the "what's hot" news and alerts section. This section includes important OFIR action alerts and informational updates that have been sent out in the recent past, as well as hot news items.
OFIR and PODL would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers, donors and supporters that helped us throughout the summer as we worked diligently on the referendum petition to get SB 833 on the ballot. Our success is sweet!
Now, we take a deep breath and begin preparing for the upcoming campaign. We hope that each and every one of you will, once again, be by our side as we head toward the November 2014 election.
The Protect Oregon Driver License website will be going through a metamorphosis over the next few weeks as it transforms from a signature gathering website into a campaign website loaded with ideas about how you can help with the upcoming campaign.
OFIR and PODL extends a great big thank you to Fred Elbel, our talented web designer.
The PODL website generated more single signer signature sheets than any initiative or referendum campaign in Oregon history. We collected over 10,700 e-sheets just from our website.
OFIR/PODL is thrilled to announce that the referendum petition to place SB 833 on the November 2014 ballot has been approved by the Secretary of State's office.

Protect Oregon Driver Licenses has submitted 71,000 signatures (58,142 were required) by the deadline of October 4. The referendum petition #301, if approved, will place the new law granting driver cards to illegal aliens on the ballot in the November 2014 election.
The Secretary of State's office has 30 days to scrutinize the signatures for validity and to be certain that all signature sheets are signed, numbered properly and have no mistakes. It is tedious work and PODL appreciates the professionalism and willingness to answer the questions of those observing the procedure.
Starting Thursday, we will begin the final phase of the approval process. Please watch for updates. As soon as we have confirmation that the referendum has been approved, we will post the good news.
You are invited to attend one of Representative Kurt Schrader's upcoming October town hall events in Oregon City and Keizer. Town hall events are excellent opportunities for you to ask questions about issues pending in Congress or the community.
The massive amnesty bill, S744 ,working its way through Congress is a threat to our nation's sovereignty. Unemployed Americans should be the first consideration of our elected officials and they clearly won't be if this bill is passed.
Please attend one of these meetings and ask Rep. Schrader to stop this bill in the House, when it arrives, and ask him not to send it on to conference.
Should the government be shutdown during these events, Schrader will not be able to attend in person. However, he will hold these town hall events from Washington, D.C. via Google Hangout live video feed.

Five months have passed since PODL began it's campaign to place SB 833 on the ballot. Volunteers have donated hundreds of hours of their time and the signatures that were gathered in every corner of the state - in neighborhoods, at County Fairs, at Gun Shows and Saturday Markets have now been submitted for review. Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal.

Thursday and Friday afternoon PODL volunteers delivered a total of 71,000 referendum petition signatures to the Secretary of State's office. To the best of our abilities, the signatures have been purged of duplicate signatures and unregistered voters.
The requirement is 58,142 valid signatures. Over the next month, the SOS office will examine the signatures to be certain that all are valid. We are confident that we will meet the requirements and our referendum will be approved for the ballot in November of 2014.
PODL would like to extend a great big thank you to everyone across the state (and the country) that pitched in to make this a successful campaign.

There is still time to turn in your signature petition sheet and be a part of the citizen's referendum drive to get SB 833 on the ballot in 2014.
Visit the PODL website: http://ProtectOregonDL.org and print out a single signature sheet. Sign and date it and then hand deliver it to the Oregon State Capitol steps in Salem on Friday morning from 9:00am to noon.
If you can take your single signature sheet to this address in Tualatin today or tomorrow by noon, it might be included in the last batch of signature sheets.

PODL will be hosting a signature sheet drop off site in Salem on the steps of the Capitol from 11:00am to 6:00 today and tomorrow (Wednesday and Thursday and Friday morning until noon). Feel free to spread the word!
And in Medford at the Republican Party headquarters in Medford at 311 E. Main St. today - between 7:00 and 7:00pm tomorrow from 7:00am - 11:00am.
Our state legislators hold town halls from time to time, inviting constituents to attend and express their civic concerns. As OFIR learns about the town hall schedules, we will alert members and encourage attendance. Town halls are a great opportunity to meet your legislators and question them in person. If you learn of town halls scheduled for your district, please send the information on to OFIR.

PODL will be hosting another drive-thru signature gathering event. This time at the famous Oregon landmark - The Bomber Restaurant in Milwaukie, this Thursday, September 19, noon to 7:00. Drive in, sign the referendum petition, drive away - you don't even need to get out of your car!
We will be back again on Monday, September 23, noon to 7:00.
