NYPD officers attacked in Times Square; 5 suspects arrested, 4 still on the loose

NEW YORK -- The NYPD is expressing outrage after officers said a crowd of asylum seekers attacked two of their own in Times Square over the weekend, only to be released without bail.

Police are asking for the public's help identifying four men they say were part of a group that attacked two officers on Saturday night.

Surveillance video provided by the NYPD shows the front of a migrant shelter at 220 West 42nd St. Police said officers were trying to disperse a disorderly crowd when the two officers were assaulted.

A second clip then shows officers apparently trying to take someone into custody when police say the officers were attacked by a group of men.

Homeless Problem Surges in Portland, Maine, as State Brings in Illegal Immigrants

PORTLAND, Maine—For 36-year-old Sheena, every day has been a struggle since she and her husband wound up homeless on the streets of Portland—Maine’s largest city on the Atlantic coastline—five months ago.

The couple had been “kicked out” of a motel after two years, though they “never once got in trouble,” she said.

Suddenly, they had nowhere else to go.

On Dec. 16, 2023, the couple were living in a pitched tent in the city’s largest homeless campsite near the Casco Bay Bridge in Harbor View Memorial Park.

Sheena said she blames the high cost of rent and limited affordable housing for the rapid growth of homeless encampments throughout the city.

She also feels the city gives “first priority” to newly arrived illegal immigrants, which “makes it even worse” for the unsheltered homeless population. . . . Read more about Homeless Problem Surges in Portland, Maine, as State Brings in Illegal Immigrants

Biden Targets Six Communities to Dump New York City’s Migrants

President Joe Biden’s deputies have targeted six poor communities in New York and New Jersey as locations to resettle the foreign migrants now overflowing government-funded shelters in New York City.

The list of sites was sent to state officials, and promptly leaked to Bloomberg, which reported:

Most of the sites are outside of the city, including Stewart International Airport, a small Hudson Valley facility frequently used by private jet owners. The Atlantic City location is even in another state, New Jersey. . . . Read more about Biden Targets Six Communities to Dump New York City’s Migrants

Los Angeles Officially Declares ‘Sanctuary City’ Status for Criminal Illegal Aliens

The city of Los Angeles, California, has officially declared itself a “sanctuary city” to shield criminal illegal aliens from arrest and deportation by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency — a decision that will enshrine the policy into its municipal code.

This week, the Los Angeles City Council made the official move to codify the region’s sanctuary policy, whereas prior directives were merely symbolic and thus subject to changes.

The sanctuary city designation, which mirrors California’s sanctuary state law, dictates that no city resources are used for federal immigration enforcement — barring local agencies from cooperating with ICE agents to turn criminal illegal aliens over for deportation. . . . Eric Adams Paints Himself into a Sanctuary Corner

Progressive mayors and governors have had a nice run for more than a decade while their opposition largely stood down. These politicians soaked up the praise from their base that came with declaring their fiefdoms “sanctuaries,” places that defy federal immigration laws and serve as a magnet for noncitizens here illegally. Those who disagreed with the policy were mostly shamed into silence, for fear of being called pejoratives like “nativist,” “xenophobe,” or the dreaded but increasingly tiresome “racist.” . . . IDNYC: Strain on Services and an Asset to Asylum Abusers

Every proposal for common-sense immigration control relies on proof of identity, both for showing status and ability to work and for receiving services. A number of states have flouted this basic principle by issuing non-REAL ID compliant driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, making it more convenient to remain here illegally. However, the current surge in illegal immigrants overwhelming sanctuary cities is highlighting another way that rogue mayors have enabled large-scale fraud and abuse: municipal IDs, in particular New York City’s IDNYC program. . . .
