FAIR Applauds the House of Representatives for Impeaching Secretary Mayorkas

(February 13, 2024, Washington, D.C.) “Today’s vote in the House to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, only the second impeachment of a cabinet official in U.S. history, is a victory for the rule of law and the American people.

“Secretary Mayorkas has not just presided over the greatest wave of illegal immigration in the nation’s history, he has actively encouraged it, facilitated it, and then forced the costs down the throats of the American people. This month marks three years since he swore to uphold the laws of the United States and protect the security of the homeland. Secretary Mayorkas, however, has done precisely the opposite.

“At every turn, Secretary Mayorkas has ignored . . . Read more about FAIR Applauds the House of Representatives for Impeaching Secretary Mayorkas

BORDER SHOWDOWN: Texas to Defy Biden Admin’s Order to Give Feds Access to Park Along Rio Grande

EAGLE PASS, Texas — As of Wednesday afternoon, Army National Guard soldiers remain posted at temporary gates erected at the entrance to a city-owned park along the Rio Grande. The park was seized by order of Texas Governor Greg Abbott and closed off to Border Patrol agents unless their entrance into the area is first coordinated with state law enforcement and the Texas Military Department.

The state appears to be standing firm as a Biden administration deadline of “the end of the day” for the state to remove the gates and allow unimpeded access to the Border Patrol approaches. General Counsel Jonathan Meyer, on behalf of the Department of Homeland Security, communicated it to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in a letter on January 10. . . . During Border Visit, Speaker Johnson Calls on President Biden to Reinstate ‘Remain in Mexico’ Policy

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and some 60 House Republicans visited the west Texas border town of Eagle Pass, where customs officials recently recorded more than 4,000 contacts with illegal immigrants on a single day.

The visit calls attention to the nation’s dysfunctional immigration system, which has allowed more than 6.5 million people to cross the southern border illegally in the past three years.

The influx has overwhelmed the capacity of border towns and the nation’s largest cities alike. And it has become an animating issue for House Republicans, who insist that the Senate enact and President Joe Biden adopt sweeping policy . . . Mandatory E-Verify to Reach House Floor under H.R. 2 -- "The Secure the Border Act of 2023"

On Tuesday, Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) and Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) introduced a new border security bill, the Secure the Border Act of 2023. With the support of House Leadership, they filed the bill as H.R. 2, showing it as the second top priority for this Congress. The bill, including mandatory E-Verify, is expected to come to the House floor for a vote next week.

Congressmen Mark Green (R-Tenn.), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Clay Higgins (R-La.), Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Ken Calvert (R-Calif.), John Carter, and Nathaniel Moran (R-Texas) also cosponsored H.R. 2, the Diaz-Balart - McClintock border security bill.

H.R. 2 (The Secure the Border Act of 2023) is a serious approach to finally ending the Biden Border Crisis. Before taking over leadership of the House of Representatives, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) promised to secure the border in Republicans' Commitment to America; the Diaz-Balart - McClintock border security bill is a significant step toward fulfilling that promise. . . .

Kevin McCarthy Cucks On Border Security—No Immigration Provisions In Debt Ceiling Bil

Well, not much of a surprise. Speaker Kevin McCarthy has presented his Debt Ceiling Bill to extend the debt limit. Instead of solutions to the major problems attached to the bill, only some limited budget cuts are included, but no cuts to programs sexually mutilating children, National Public Radio (NPR), or the Public Broadcasting System (PBS). No language has been attached for issues that are good for Republicans, such as gun rights, immigration control, or civil rights for white Americans. . . . Gov. Abbott's Border Operation Nabs 348,000 Illegal Immigrants, 361 Million Fentanyl Doses

A state-level initiative to counter the swarm of illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas has, to date, resulted in more than 348,000 apprehensions and the seizure of more than 361 million doses of the deadly drug fentanyl.

The initiative, Operation Lone Star, was created by Texas's Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in March 2021.

As Abbott explained then, “The crisis at our southern border continues to escalate because of Biden administration policies that refuse to secure the border and invite illegal immigration. Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans. . . . House Republican Doubles Down on Amnesty in Davos

Earlier this week, Rep. Maria Salazar (R-Fla.) joined the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, where she doubled down on her push for amnesty for illegal aliens. Specifically, she claimed, “[w]e need to also give dignity to those people who are in the country and those are the people that I represent. We’re talking about 13 to 15 million people — who are, most of them, Hispanics, I would say 85 percent who speak my language, look like me, and sound like me — who are contributing to the economy of this country and they live in the shadows. . . . Rep. Chip Roy Introduces Bill to Block Illegal Immigration until Border is Secure

Texas Rep. Chip Roy has introduced a bill in the House of Representatives that would block illegal aliens from entering the United States until the border wall is under "operational control."

"'The Border Safety and Security Act' which was first introduced last year and would authorize the Homeland Security Secretary to suspend the entry of illegal immigrants into the United States, if he determines it 'necessary in order to achieve operational control' of the border," reports Fox News.

Additionally, the legislation would mandate the suspension of entry of aliens if DHS cannot properly detain them or place them in effective programs like the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols (Remain in Mexico). The bill currently has 49 co-sponsors in the House. . . . Read more about Rep. Chip Roy Introduces Bill to Block Illegal Immigration until Border is Secure

FAIR: Speaker McCarthy, We're Here to Help

(January 7, 2023, Washington, D.C.) — The following statement was issued by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) in response to the election of Kevin McCarthy of California as the 53rd Speaker of the House:

"Over the past two years, we have all witnessed the devastating harm wrought by a rogue administration that is asserting near dictatorial powers in a relentless effort to keep our borders open. The American people are appalled by what is going on and want to see it ended.

"Now that the 118th Congress is officially underway with a new House majority, it is in large part because voters rejected the Biden administration's purposeful dismantling of our nation's borders, as well as former Speaker Pelosi's amnesty-first legislative agenda. Newly elected Speaker Kevin McCarthy and the entire Republican conference have a mandate to act decisively to restore control of our borders. . . .

Now in Charge, House Republicans Ante Up on Immigration with Two Bills; Action Expected Next Week

Although the leadership race has not been decided and committee membership is still in the works, House Republicans have already announced they will consider two immigration bills on the floor of the House next week.  The bills tackle two issues:  Title 42 expulsion authority and the law prohibiting illegal aliens from possessing firearms. The first bill, entitled the “Border Safety and Security Act of 2023,” is almost a carbon copy of a bill authored and introduced by Texas Congressman Chip Roy in May 2022.  It is a short, 3-page bill that essentially replicates the Title 42 authority to expel illegal aliens in Title 8, which houses the Immigration and Nationality Act.  Specifically, it grants the Secretary of Homeland Security the authority to expel aliens who do not have proper documents if the Secretary determines in his/her discretion that doing so “is necessary to achieve operational control over such border.” . . .
