The apprehension of migrants by Border Patrol agents along the southwest border fell by about nine percent in May, according to a CBP source. The slight decline in apprehensions follows the Biden administration’s ending of the Title 42 COVID-19 migrant expulsion program.

Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 165,000 migrants who crossed the southwest border from Mexico between ports of entry, according to an unofficial Border Patrol report reviewed by Breitbart Texas. The Biden administration is ending a Trump-era plan designed to crack down on fake claims of family relationships among illegal immigrants crossing America’s southern border.

The policy will end May 31, according to a leaked memo published by Just the News.

“The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) familial DNA contract with BODE Technologies will end on May 31, 2023 and all familial DNA testing will conclude on that date,” the memo said.

In 2019, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan told the Senate Judiciary Committee that, based on initial results of one pilot program, 15 percent of alleged migrant families are committing fraud by claiming unrelated children as their own, according to The Hill. . . .

Homeland Security to task for announcing the time and place of a raid to apprehend people who entered the country illegally.

CNN White House correspondent Priscilla Alvarez tweeted Monday night, “NEWS: Federal authorities will conduct an enforcement op in El Paso, Texas, targeting migrants who crossed the US-Mexico border and were not processed by immigration authorities, starting Tuesday.”

A source operating under the umbrella of U.S. Customs and Border Protection not authorized to speak to the media on these matters told Breitbart Texas that agents apprehended more than 37,000 migrants in April. The monthly total represents an increase of more than 100 percent from the nearly 18,000 migrants apprehended in March. It also exceeds the total apprehensions for February and March combined — just under 33,000.

The tremendous spike in migrant apprehensions in April come just ahead of the expected demise of the CDC’s Title 42 coronavirus protection protocol that allows Border Patrol agents to expel migrants for health concerns. At a House Homeland Security Committee hearing held in McAllen, Texas, BorderPatrol Chief Raul Ortiz contradicted claims by the White House and his direct boss, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, that we have operational control of our southern border. In response to a question posed by Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.), “Does DHS have operational control of our entire border?” Ortiz replied, “No sir.” 

Operational control is a statutorily defined term meaning “the prevention of all unlawful entries into the United States, including entries by terrorists, other unlawful aliens, instruments of terrorism, narcotics and other contraband.” Not only did Ortiz concede that that is not the case, he made it clear that under the Biden administration, meeting the legal requirement of operational control is not even a goal of this administration. . . . SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas — The Border Patrol conducted a multi-agency water safety exercise along the southern edge of South Padre Island to address the dangers posed to migrants. Agents trained to rescue migrants attempting to enter the U.S. via the Texas Gulf Coast. Monday’s exercise involved CBP Air and Marine units; Rio Grande Valley Sector’s Border, Search, Trauma, and Rescue Team (BORSTAR); and the United States Coast Guard.

TEMPE, Ariz. (NewsNation) — Law enforcement along the southern border is dealing with a surge of migrants and bracing for more as the pandemic-era migrant expulsion program nears its end.

Title 42 is set to expire in just over two weeks, and the number of illegal crossings is already exploding.

In the Rio Grande Valley Sector, U.S. Border Patrol has reported agents in Brownsville seeing large groups, some upward of a thousand, crossing each day. 

Just days ago, more than a thousand migrants stormed a vehicle checkpoint, prompting border officials to close the Gateway International Bridge for several hours. Late Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee debated and passed the Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Act of 2023, an extensive security and enforcement-minded bill that aims to end the Biden border crisis.  The final vote of 23-15 fell essentially along party lines, with one Republican voting with Democrats against the bill. The bill now moves to the floor for consideration by the full House of Representatives.
