DHS Announces Plan to Stop Some Venezuelan Aliens at the Southern Border

On Wednesday, The Department of Homeland Security announced a new effort to stop the migration of Venezuela’s convicted criminals to the United States, restoring in part the Trump-era policy of returning some migrants back over the border to Mexico.

The Department of Homeland Security stated that it would accept 24,000 Venezuelans through the legal avenue of “parole,” a privilege granted to DHS to allow aliens into the United States on an individual, frequently on a humanitarian basis - but used by the Biden Admin. in illegally broad swaths.

To qualify as one of the 24,000 Venezuelans allowed into the U.S. via parole, a Venezuelan national must apply, be vetted, and be accepted by DHS while still outside the country. . . . Read more about DHS Announces Plan to Stop Some Venezuelan Aliens at the Southern Border

New FAIR Cost Study: Biden Immigration Policies Impose Crushing Burden on Already-Strained Schools

A new report by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) finds that one in ten students in our nation’s public schools are considered Limited English Proficient (LEP), requiring an annual expenditure of $78 billion to provide remedial English language instruction. Moreover, the surge of illegal migration instigated by Biden administration policies – including an unprecedented number of unaccompanied alien children (UACs) – is outpacing the nation’s education system’s ability to hire enough teachers qualified to meet the needs of LEP kids. . . . DC advances Alien Voting Bill

The Washington DC city council took the first of two votes to give voting rights in local elections to foreign nationals, including illegal aliens. The Constitution dictates that the District of Columbia because it is the seat of government be under Congress’ authority.  Article 1 of the Constitution authorizes Congress to exert total legislative authority over Washington, DC. Over time, Congress has ceded its authority over to local control. However, under the Home Rule Act, Congress did retain the ability to block DC bills by passing a joint resolution that is approved by the president within 30 days of the DC mayor adopting them.                                                                                                                                                                                             When Congress passed the DC Home Rule Act in 1973, it specified that only American citizens in DC could vote in elections for federal office.  However, Congress did not specifically limit voting to American citizens when it came to DC’s local offices.  Read more about DC advances Alien Voting Bill

Appeals Court Ruling Sends a Clear Message that Presidents Cannot Nullify Immigration Law through Executive Action, Says FAIR

(October 6, 2022, Washington, D.C.) – The following statement was issued by Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), in response to Wednesday’s ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit declaring the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to be unlawful:

“Yesterday, the Fifth Circuit correctly upheld a federal district judge’s ruling that the Obama-era DACA program is unlawful. Presidents do not have the authority to exempt entire classes of immigration lawbreakers from enforcement, or provide them with authorization to work in the United States, when federal statutes explicitly bar them from being here or working here. . . . Debate Over Allowing In Russians Fleeing Mobilization Raises Important Concerns

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February, Moscow has so far failed to break Kyiv’s resistance, albeit not without causing a tremendous deal of death, suffering, and destruction. In fact, the Ukrainian forces pushed back the Russians in September in a counter-offensive, prompting Vladimir Putin to declare a partial mobilization to beef up the Kremlin’s military after it suffered significant losses. Anti-war protests followed as a result, and many young men began fleeing the country to avoid conscription. . . .
