FAIR Opposes Biden Effort to Delay Implementation of Rule Reducing Abuse of H-1B Program

“President Biden often portrays himself as a man from the ‘working class’ who is a tireless defender of the American worker,” said FAIR President Dan Stein. “Yet his administration is set to postpone, by at least a year, an important rule change that prevents unscrupulous employers from using the H-1B visa program to undercut American workers and wages while ensuring that companies that truly need skilled foreign workers have access to the best and the brightest.” – Dan Stein

(March 11, 2021, Washington, D.C.) – The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) submitted a public comment yesterday to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regarding its decision to postpone the implementation of a Trump administration rule that would reduce abuse of the H-1B program by unscrupulous employers while also protecting American workers. . .

Cruz, Hawley Criticize Biden After Report That CBP Closed Down 3 Highway Checkpoints in Arizona

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Sen. Josh Hawley(R-Miss.) on March 9 criticized the Biden administration in response to a report that Customs and Border Protection had shut down three highway checkpoints in Arizona.

“How much more will it take for the Biden administration to admit there is a crisis on the border?” Cruz wrote on Twitter on March 9, citing a tweet about the development in Arizona.

“The border is approaching full-blown crisis, and the Biden Admin’s response is … nothing,” Hawley wrote on Twitter on March 9.

A Customs and Border Protection spokesperson told The Epoch Times in an email on March 10 that the checkpoints closed in January “due to shifting trafficking patterns … Specifically an increase in single adults in the Tucson and Three Points stations. A skeleton presence remained for security. Recently, the equipment has been removed from the sites to free up those agents to return to law enforcement duties. . . Arizona and Montana Take Legal Action Against Biden Admin ICE Arrest Regulations

Arizona and Montana are taking legal action (pdf) to block new Biden administration immigration regulations, saying that these would cause negative consequences for the states.

The new rules would limit the capability of ICE to detain some illegal immigrants unless they pose a threat to national security, entered through the border after Nov. 1, or committed aggravated felonies.

The Biden administration says that the rules don’t impair arresting or deporting people, but the officers in the field would need to request permission from their superiors to arrest people outside of the aforementioned cases.

“If asked about the poorest policy choice I’ve ever seen in government, this would be a strong contender,” Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in a statement. “Blindly releasing thousands of people, including convicted criminals and those who may be spreading COVID-19 into our state, is both unconscionable and a violation of federal law. This must be stopped now to avoid a dangerous humanitarian crisis for the immigrants and the people of Arizona.”. . DH Seeks Volunteers to Help With "Overwhelming Surge" at Border

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is seeking volunteers from among its agencies to assist in dealing with an “overwhelming” migrant surge at the U.S.-Mexico border, as the Biden administration continues to deny that there’s a crisis.

“Today, I activated the Volunteer Force to support Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as they face a surge in migration along the Southwest Border,” DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in an email to employees on March 8, obtained by several news outlets.

“You have likely seen the news about the overwhelming numbers of migrants seeking access to this country along the Southwest Border,” Mayorkas said. . .

DHS Delays Critical H-1B Rule, Senators Respond

DHS announced in February that it will be delaying and reconsidering a critical regulation change governing how USCIS selects H-1B registrations for the filing of cap-subject petitions. The administration’s failure to implement these critical reforms underscores its unwillingness to prioritize the interests of both U.S. and foreign workers over those of profit collectors and outsourcing companies. . . FAIR: Xavier Becerra is the Wrong Man to Head HHS as a Flood of Migrants Strains Department Resources

(March 4, 2021, Washington, D.C.) — The following statement was issued by Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), in opposition to the nomination of Xavier Becerra to lead the Department of Health and Human Services:

“FAIR’s strong concerns about the fitness of Xavier Becerra to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) are clearly reflected in the Senate Finance Committee’s failure to support his nomination.

“HHS is faced with unprecedented strains on its resources as the lead federal agency tasked with dealing with the COVID crisis. The Biden administration’s reckless immigration policies have triggered another border crisis and a growing surge of people coming across our borders and multiplying demands on public health resources. Moreover, because HHS is also responsible for the care and housing of unaccompanied children entering the country illegally, the burden on agency personnel and resources will be even greater. . . Biden Rescinds Covid-19 Immigrant Visa Pause

Biden’s order takes direct aim at President Trump’s response to the COVID-19 economic crisis. In the order, Biden writes:

[The April 2020 order] does not advance the interests of the United States. To the contrary, it harms the United States, including by preventing certain family members of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents from joining their families here.  It also harms industries in the United States that utilize talent from around the world.

Trump’s order cited the effects of the COVID-19 economic crisis on the domestic labor market. The unemployment rate in April 2020 stood at 14.8 percent, whereas a year before it stood at just 3.7 percent. Citing labor market conditions, President Trump’s order read:

I have determined that, without intervention, the United States faces a potentially protracted economic recovery with persistently high unemployment if labor supply outpaces labor demand. Excess labor supply affects all workers and potential workers, but it is particularly harmful to workers at the margin between employment and unemployment, who are typically "last in" during an economic expansion and "first out" during an economic contraction. . .

Biden's Open Border Plan is "Madness," According to Immigration Patriot Stephen Miller

Stephen Miller is a top immigration authority who got Washington experience working for Senator Jeff Sessions and later for President Trump in the White House. Lately he has been appearing on TV discussing the threat posed by the new administration’s border policy.

President Biden’s proposed immigration legislation is beyond extreme in its intent — Miller reports that if passed, it would crush America’s fundamental powers as a nation, namely to control who enters the country. Biden’s borders will melt into nothing as idealized by globalists, transforming citizens into powerless serfs.

Former Trump economist Peter Navarro predicts that more than a million illegal aliens will cross the border in 2021. Obama DHS official Julliette Kayyam has the same numerical estimate. . . Read more about Biden's Open Border Plan is "Madness," According to Immigration Patriot Stephen Miller

Ex-Top Immigration Advisor: Biden's Agenda Would Fundamentally Erase the Very Essence of America's Nationhood"

A top former Trump White House adviser on immigration told Fox News in an interview on Sunday that President Joe Biden’s immigration agenda would “fundamentally erase the very essence of America’s nationhood.”

“The reason why I have studied immigration so closely is because it’s so fundamental to what it is to be a nation, the right of the people living in a country to decide who enters that country, on what conditions, for how long, and how to establish national boundaries and borders. That’s fundamental to what it means to be a country,” Stephen Miller told Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo. “The legislation put forward by President Biden and congressional Democrats would fundamentally erase the very essence of America’s nationhood. For the first time, I believe in human history, this legislation proposes sending applications to previously deported illegal immigrants and giving them the chance to reenter the country on a rapid path to citizenship. This is unheard of.”. . Read more about Ex-Top Immigration Advisor: Biden's Agenda Would Fundamentally Erase the Very Essence of America's Nationhood"
