Gov. Abbott's Border Operation Nabs 348,000 Illegal Immigrants, 361 Million Fentanyl Doses

A state-level initiative to counter the swarm of illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas has, to date, resulted in more than 348,000 apprehensions and the seizure of more than 361 million doses of the deadly drug fentanyl.

The initiative, Operation Lone Star, was created by Texas's Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in March 2021.

As Abbott explained then, “The crisis at our southern border continues to escalate because of Biden administration policies that refuse to secure the border and invite illegal immigration. Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans. . . . Illegal Aliens Overwhelming Arizona Border City: Locals

The Biden administration’s lax border policies are resulting in the Arizona border city of Yuma being pushed to the brink of collapse as it deals with a massive surge in illegal immigrants, with the region’s critical food production coming under threat, a local official said.

“Policies need to be changed when you see an unprecedented amount of people coming across the border that even supersedes what we saw under any of the other presidents for the past 30 years,” Yuma County Supervisor Jonathan Lines told Fox News. “They’re coming because they said that Biden told them to come, that we have an open border.” . . . Will El Chapo son's arrest slow export of drugs to US? Next steps crucial, experts say

MEXICO CITY ― The arrest of Ovidio Guzmán, the son of former Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán, is an important step for the Mexican government, experts say, but it will likely have little effect on the flow of illegal drugs, particularly fentanyl, across the border.

You're not going to see a big difference or a reduction in the amount of fentanyl coming to the United States. But having said all of that, it is still a very good arrest because there is no doubt that Ovidio was heavily involved in the day-to-day activities of the Sinaloa Cartel,” said former El Paso U.S. Marshal Robert Almonte. . . . Texas Governor Seeks Probe of NGOs for Alleged Migrant ‘Illegal Border Crossing’ Assistance

Texas Governor Greg Abbott called on the attorney general to open an investigation into non-government organizations or NGOs who may have assisted in migrant border crossings into the state. The move comes after record-setting large group crossings around El Paso over the weekend.“There have been recent reports that non-governmental organizations may have assisted with illegal border crossings near El Paso,” Governor Abbott wrote in a letter to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. “We further understand NGOs may be engaged in unlawfully orchestrating other border crossings through activities on both sides of the border, including in sectors other than El Paso. Venezuelans Swarm Across Rio Grande at El Paso, Attack Border Patrol

On Monday, a large group illegally crossed the southern border into the United States at El Paso, Texas and attacked Border Patrol agents. One individual in the group was carrying a giant Venezuelan flag.

Bill Melugin and Adam Shaw of Fox News reported:

[Border Patrol] said one of the protesters assaulted an agent with a flagpole while another threw a rock at agents, injuring one in the process. That in turn led Border Patrol to initiate crowd-control measures.

"These measures included the use of the authorized less-lethal force pepperball launching system," the statement said. "The crowd then dispersed and returned to Mexico." . . . Read more about Venezuelans Swarm Across Rio Grande at El Paso, Attack Border Patrol
